Day 10 checking in on how I’m feeling about this, and the question arises, what is the point of doing this? Yes I know what I’ve read about why everyone else does dry January – to lose weight, to give their bodies a break after holiday indulgence, perhaps to explore “sober curious.” But what is the point of my Dry January? Seems like a good time to reconnect with the motivations. 1. To show myself that I can do it. And since I’m not an alcoholic, it shouldn’t be that hard, right? The fact that it is, at times, a bit hard, reinforces my sense that it’s a good idea to try! 2. To see if not drinking for several weeks in a row improves my sleep. This is a really important motivation. My sleep patterns have been, well, pretty terrible for… a good long while. 3. To explore habits and patterns related to drinking, to see just how attached I am to it.
Ok, I think that covers it. Onward!
